What this release changes
- Fixes scan-to-email failures against servers that require TLS 1.3.
- Corrects head alignment drift reported after long idle periods.
- Adds a maintenance-box level warning at 90 % instead of 100 %.
Before you start. Print a configuration page and keep it — it holds the
current firmware version, the IP address and the counters you will want if anything goes wrong.
Put the device on a wired connection if it has one, pause the print queue, and make sure nothing
will cut power for the next 8–12 minutes.
Method 1 — web interface (recommended)
- Open the printer’s address in a browser and sign in as administrator.
- Go to Web Config → Device Management → Firmware Update.
- Select the downloaded package and start the upload. Do not close the tab.
- Wait for the device to reboot on its own. The panel returns to Ready when it is done.
- Print a configuration page and confirm the version now reads JN13K5.
Method 2 — USB / local
Not supported on this model.
Method 3 — from the panel
If the device can reach the internet: Settings → Firmware Update → Start Checking. This pulls the same release; it is the simplest route, and the slowest, because the device downloads the package itself.
Model-specific notes
- Run a nozzle check before updating. The firmware runs a cleaning cycle on first boot and a clogged head turns that into three cycles and a lot of ink.
- The panel goes dark for about 90 seconds near the end. The printer is writing the boot block — do not touch power.
- Epson firmware cannot be rolled back on this platform. Read the notes on rollback before you start.
If the update fails
A failed upload is not a dead printer. Power-cycle the device, wait two minutes, print a configuration page and check which version it reports. If it still reports the old version, the flash never started and you can simply try again — over USB or the panel this time, not the network. If the panel is stuck on a boot or download screen, follow rollback and recovery.
Not sure it is worth updating? If the device is doing its job and none of the
fixes above describes a problem you actually have, leave it. Firmware is maintenance, not an upgrade.
