What this release changes
- Fixes an ADF double-feed detection that stopped scans on thin originals.
- Adds SMB 3.1.1 for scan-to-folder; SMB 1 is now disabled by default.
- Resolves a memory leak after roughly 4,000 fax pages.
Before you start. Print a configuration page and keep it — it holds the
current firmware version, the IP address and the counters you will want if anything goes wrong.
Put the device on a wired connection if it has one, pause the print queue, and make sure nothing
will cut power for the next 10–15 minutes.
Method 1 — web interface (recommended)
- Open the printer’s address in a browser and sign in as administrator.
- Go to Remote UI → Settings/Registration → Firmware Update → Manual Update.
- Select the downloaded package and start the upload. Do not close the tab.
- Wait for the device to reboot on its own. The panel returns to Ready when it is done.
- Print a configuration page and confirm the version now reads 12.09.
Method 2 — USB / local
Service mode only — not a field procedure.
Method 3 — from the panel
If the device can reach the internet: Menu → Management Settings → Update Firmware → Via PC / Via Internet. This pulls the same release; it is the simplest route, and the slowest, because the device downloads the package itself.
Model-specific notes
- After this update scan-to-folder over SMB 1 stops working. Move the share to SMB 2 or later before flashing, or scanning breaks for everyone on Monday morning.
- The Remote UI upload needs the device administrator PIN. The default is
7654321and most sites have changed it — find it before you begin. - Fax memory is cleared. Print or forward pending faxes first.
If the update fails
A failed upload is not a dead printer. Power-cycle the device, wait two minutes, print a configuration page and check which version it reports. If it still reports the old version, the flash never started and you can simply try again — over USB or the panel this time, not the network. If the panel is stuck on a boot or download screen, follow rollback and recovery.
Not sure it is worth updating? If the device is doing its job and none of the
fixes above describes a problem you actually have, leave it. Firmware is maintenance, not an upgrade.
