What this release changes
- Restores automatic wake from deep sleep when the job arrives over Wi-Fi.
- Fixes wrong toner-low reporting with high-yield TN-760 cartridges.
- Improves handling of duplex jobs on 60–70 g/m² paper.
Before you start. Print a configuration page and keep it — it holds the
current firmware version, the IP address and the counters you will want if anything goes wrong.
Put the device on a wired connection if it has one, pause the print queue, and make sure nothing
will cut power for the next 4–6 minutes.
Method 1 — web interface (recommended)
- Open the printer’s address in a browser and sign in as administrator.
- Go to Not available — this model has no firmware upload in the web interface.
- Select the downloaded package and start the upload. Do not close the tab.
- Wait for the device to reboot on its own. The panel returns to Ready when it is done.
- Print a configuration page and confirm the version now reads 1.62.
Method 2 — USB / local
Not supported. The update runs from a computer over USB with the Firmware Update Tool.
Method 3 — from the panel
If the device can reach the internet: Menu → Machine Info → Firmware Auto Check (on by default, needs internet). This pulls the same release; it is the simplest route, and the slowest, because the device downloads the package itself.
Model-specific notes
- Connect the USB cable directly to the computer. Through a hub the tool loses the device mid-transfer and the printer stays in boot mode.
- The status LED blinks orange during the flash. That is normal and lasts up to three minutes.
- Wi-Fi credentials survive the update; a factory reset afterwards erases them.
If the update fails
A failed upload is not a dead printer. Power-cycle the device, wait two minutes, print a configuration page and check which version it reports. If it still reports the old version, the flash never started and you can simply try again — over USB or the panel this time, not the network. If the panel is stuck on a boot or download screen, follow rollback and recovery.
Not sure it is worth updating? If the device is doing its job and none of the
fixes above describes a problem you actually have, leave it. Firmware is maintenance, not an upgrade.
